York Hospital is the appreciative and fortunate beneficiary of a winter’s worth of hard work and skilled craftsmanship by Eagle Scout Benjamin E. Hines of York. Ben, a member of Troop 301, Pine Tree Council, in the York District of Boy Scouts of America, chose to refurbish five outdoor park benches located on the hospital campus for his mandatory Eagle Scout Service Project. The wood and metal benches, in need of varying levels of attention, were removed from their concrete pads in February, repaired off site, and returned in April just before the area’s first run of warm weather.

During previous visits to York Hospital, Ben had noticed how often the benches were enjoyed by patients, visitors and employees, weather permitting. “Patients use these benches to wait for appointments, and employees enjoy them during breaks and for outdoor lunches,” he explained. Ben also thought about the increased importance of having outdoor seating, especially in a medical setting, with 冰球突破 still a concern. Availability of outdoor seating provides safe, comfortable options for everyone.

York Hospital Communications Specialist Jean Kolak couldn’t agree more, noting: “Ben’s significant donation of both his skill and his time has made a visit to York Hospital more comfortable, in every sense. Our benches are like new, and provide a perfect spot to sit, relax and enjoy the scenery. They also offer peace of mind for those who prefer to remain outside in the fresh air and shade, while waiting for a friend or family member visiting with one of our providers.” The benches are located between the Henry S. Warner Medical Office Building and the Garden Room at MIRACLES – The Diana Baldwin Dunnan Family Center.

While the logistics, materials and project planning were Ben’s responsibility, the refurbishment work was shared by others. Fellow Troop 301 members Cam Dalton and Darryl Kelly (above right, with Ben, standing left and right), as well as neighborhood friends and family, joined in to help. On your next visit to York Hospital’s main campus, if you’re in need of a spot for a leisurely chat, a quick scroll through your texts, or simply to clear your head for a few moments, find yourself a bench and relax courtesy of Eagle Scout Ben Hines and the Boy Scouts of America.
